We are created to be with God and with one another in this life and the next. We do not deserve such a privilege. It is ours even before we ask. But we must ask in order to accept that which is freely given.
And, as we experience that Presence, perhaps in answer to a prayer or in a moment of greatest need, can we not hear God say, “But I am with you always, even when you are not ‘present’ with me.”
I am grateful, then, for those crises—those moments of illness or pain, when I sought out that Presence only to realize, “I am always with you, even unto the ends of the earth.”
